Christmas Concert and New Signings at Lindley.

Christmas Concert and New Signings at Lindley.

Last night Lindley band held a fantastic Christmas concert at St Peter’s church (masks for all except when playing). A massive thank you to all who played, attended or helped in anyway.

The evening saw the first appearance of Tower Brass Community Band and also was the debut concert for 3 of Lindley Band’s new signings Sophie Stones, Neil Holmes and Victoria Kenworthy Nash.

Brass bands are a new venture for Sophie, who joins on flugel, having previously played trumpet in Hull Philharmonic and Slaithwaite Philharmonic orchestras. She also currently sings soprano with Huddersfield Choral Society.

Neil Holmes joins on 2nd Euphonium after a lengthy break from playing. This is his third stint at Lindley, and he is looking forward to adding to his many great memories of playing with the band.

We are delighted to welcome Victoria on horn. She has moved to Lindley from the Tyldesley Band. Victoria started her banding in Linthwaite, so has gone full circle by joining Lindley Band in Huddersfield.

Silver award for Lindley youngster

Silver award for Lindley youngster

A big “well done” to our cornet player Haydn Osborne on achieving the Silver Arts Award ( Arts equivalent of the Duke of Edinburgh Award). The aim of this qualification is to help individuals develop their skills and confidence in their preferred artform. Haydn, who was supported in achieving this award via his membership of the Yorkshire Youth Band, had to put in around 100 hours of work to complete the required tasks. These included attending events, doing research and organising concerts for the band. Once all the work was completed Haydn had to create and present a portfolio to evidence his knowledge and understanding. Nick Childs himself knocked on the door to present his certificate!
